A simple still life of items found in most homes.an empty wine glass, a luscious Granny Smith green apple and a lovely pale yellow pitcher anchored with a piece of cloth. The colors are soft, muted and easy to live with. This painting is on a 1.5 inch deep canvas, edge painted so it can be displayed with or without a frame or sits on a shelf with no support.

I began my art career using oil paints and I taught that medium for many years at my studio in Conway, Arkansas. A few years later I studied watercolors and acrylics and used these two water-based media almost exclusively for many years. Recently, however, I find myself reaching once again for my oil paints. It's rather like being reunited with an old friend I haven't seen in years. The body of the paint, the smell of turps, and the luminous quality of the painted surface are the reasons oil paint remains a timeless painting medium. I love painting with watercolor and acrylics in my studio but, I always use oils for Plein-air painting because its longer drying time is not affected by sun or wind.
