This scene is on the bank of the Little Red River, near Clinton Arkansas. Leaves have started turning to gold, the glancing sunlight catching the leading edge of the central tree causing it to stand out from the darker greens across the river. The Little Red River is flowing swiftly, but there's a perfect spot for fishing in the center foreground where one could spend a few hours listening to the water as it rushes downstream.

I began my art career using oil paints and I taught that medium for many years at my studio in Conway, Arkansas. A few years later I studied watercolors and acrylics and used these two water-based media almost exclusively for many years. Recently, however, I find myself reaching once again for my oil paints. It's rather like being reunited with an old friend I haven't seen in years. The body of the paint, the smell of turps, and the luminous quality of the painted surface are the reasons oil paint remains a timeless painting medium. I love painting with watercolor and acrylics in my studio but, I always use oils for Plein-air painting because its longer drying time is not affected by sun or wind.
