A smaller painting of Carmen's Art and Antiques in downtown Conway, Arkansas. Conway is a beautiful city to paint with its hanging baskets on lamp posts, greenery, and flowering crape myrtles. I'm the artist in residence at Carmen's, my studio is on the second floor of this beautiful old historic building.

I began my art career using oil paints and I taught that medium for many years at my studio in Conway, Arkansas. A few years later I studied watercolors and acrylics and used these two water-based media almost exclusively for many years. Recently, however, I find myself reaching once again for my oil paints. It's rather like being reunited with an old friend I haven't seen in years. The body of the paint, the smell of turps, and the luminous quality of the painted surface are the reasons oil paint remains a timeless painting medium. I love painting with watercolor and acrylics in my studio but, I always use oils for Plein-air painting because its longer drying time is not affected by sun or wind.
