About Virginia Potter
I'm an Arkansas artist, who continues to be inspired by the natural beauty of the land and it's people. I developed a rich imagination as a child, visualizing people, events and places as I listened to stories told by my grandparents. This ability has served me well over my lifetime as an artist.
I began my art career in the late 1960's using oil paints and I taught that medium for many years at my studio in Conway. I studied watercolors and acrylics in the mid seventies and used these two water based media almost exclusively for many years. Recently however, I find myself reaching once again for my oil paints. It's rather like being reunited with an old friend I haven't seen in years and I've enjoyed becoming reacquainted. The body of the paint, the smell of turps and the luminous quality of the painted surface are the reasons oil paint remains a timeless painting medium. I love painting with any and every medium and after all the experimenting with different media I still haven't found a favorite, but at the moment I'm absolutely in love with my oil paints.
