This colorful Blue Jay, with a cedar berry in his beak, is sitting on a snow covered cedar limb protected from the winter winds. The original is 6x8 and mats to fit into an 8x10 frame, not included. Painted on Winsor and Newton 100% rag paper using professional grade paints.

I began my art career using oil paints and I taught that medium for many years at my studio in Conway, Arkansas. A few years later I studied watercolors and acrylics and used these two water-based media almost exclusively for many years. Recently, however, I find myself reaching once again for my oil paints. It's rather like being reunited with an old friend I haven't seen in years. The body of the paint, the smell of turps, and the luminous quality of the painted surface are the reasons oil paint remains a timeless painting medium. I love painting with watercolor and acrylics in my studio but, I always use oils for Plein-air painting because its longer drying time is not affected by sun or wind.
