Artist's Description
The corner of Oak and Chestnut in Conway, Arkansas is the place in Conway to see and buy paintings, sculpture and antiques. Next door are colorful and exciting places to visit Bevy's, Kicks and Top Hat costumes.. I love painting these Conway street scenes with the beautiful hanging baskets of flowers, light poles marching down the sidewalks and beautiful crape myrtles. A beautiful, forward thinking and colorful city to live in and be a part of.
About Virginia Potter
I began my art career using oil paints and I taught that medium for many years at my studio in Conway, Arkansas. A few years later I studied watercolors and acrylics and used these two water-based media almost exclusively for many years. Recently, however, I find myself reaching once again for my oil paints. It's rather like being reunited with an old friend I haven't seen in years. The body of the paint, the smell of turps, and the luminous quality of the painted surface are the reasons oil paint remains a timeless painting medium. I love painting with watercolor and acrylics in my studio but, I always use oils for Plein-air painting because its longer drying time is not affected by sun or wind. I love to travel, enthusiastically...

Thanks Maryann and Warren. I'm having the very best time painting Conway. I've lived here for such a long time and love the place, but never thought of it as subject for painting. Or to be more accurate, never thought I could do it justice. I'm working on Mike's Place and the court house at the moment and can't wait to get started on the next painting. Warren, you never know. Maybe someday you'll travel north and come through Conway. It's on the way going most everywhere.
