Two pairs of shoes are on a closet shelf. One pair is red slides, the other tan flats and both pair have cut outs. The tan flats have been placed carefully into their black shiny box while the red ones have been tossed on the shelf next to them and are reflected on the shiny shoe box surface.

I began my art career using oil paints and I taught that medium for many years at my studio in Conway, Arkansas. A few years later I studied watercolors and acrylics and used these two water-based media almost exclusively for many years. Recently, however, I find myself reaching once again for my oil paints. It's rather like being reunited with an old friend I haven't seen in years. The body of the paint, the smell of turps, and the luminous quality of the painted surface are the reasons oil paint remains a timeless painting medium. I love painting with watercolor and acrylics in my studio but, I always use oils for Plein-air painting because its longer drying time is not affected by sun or wind.
